Q. Does concrete crack?

A. Yes, it doesn't happen often but over time hairline cracks can appear in the surface. These cracks are not structural and will add to the rustic look and feel of your countertop. Structural cracking rarely occurs but your piece is warranteed against structural cracking for ten years.

Q. Does concrete stain?

A. Yes, concrete can stain. We use three different sealers to protect the concrete. The final sealer is a food grade bee's wax. The wax should be re-applied regularly to protect the finish. Highly acidic foods like lemon, oily foods and red wine should always be wiped up promptly.

Q. Can I place hot pans on the surface?

A. Your concrete countertop will withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees F. The bee's wax that we use as a sealer will not. So we don't reccommend placing hot pans directly on the countertop.

Q. Concrete is heavy. Will my cabinets be able to support it?

A. Yes, concrete is heavy, and yes, your cabinet will be able to support it. Per square foot, concrete weighs about the same as granite. Our countertops are poured 1 1/2" thick and we usually use a 3/4" plywood underlayment. The full weight is distributed across the cabinet.

Q. I have a unique idea I would like incorporated into my countertop. Do you do custom work?

A. All of the work we do is custom, and we love working with our customers. If you can imagine it we can probably create it. Edge styles, decorative inlays and colors can all be customized.
